Econ Engineering Partners with Lantra

Econ Engineering has established a new training programme for the wider industry as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, efficiency and compliance in winter maintenance operations.

The initiative, launched under Econ’s Skills for Life continuous professional development initiative, includes a series of industry accredited training courses run in partnership with Lantra, the leading awarding body for land-based industries in the UK.

Delivered by experienced professionals, the one-day, in person courses are aimed at a range of professionals, including engineers, operators and trainers, giving them the knowledge and skills to maintain winter service vehicles safely and efficiently.

Steve Sinnott, Sales Director at Econ Engineering, said: “Econ is already a Lantra approved training provider for Winter Service Operations Courses, offering access to a comprehensive range of courses and qualifications, and it is great to be evolving our already successful partnership further.

“By equipping teams with the right knowledge, this training helps increase return on investment, reduce downtime, improve service awareness, and enhance long-term operational efficiency. Proper training also minimises safety risks and ensures best practices are followed throughout the servicing and repair process.

“Lantra qualifications are government-approved, recognised by employers and insurers, and valid for five years. They are suitable for all abilities from novices to experienced operatives aged 16 and over and can also be taken as part of periodic refresher sessions for continuous professional development.”

People who successfully complete a course receive a Lantra-accredited photographic ID card and a certificate of completion.

Under the program, the Econ Certified Training courses are:

  • Operator Training – designed to maximise the performance, efficiency and lifespan of Econ highway maintenance equipment.
  • Train the Trainer – for organisations looking to develop an in-house training expert to ensure best practices are consistently applied.
  • Workshop Engineer – targeted at organisations with their own on-site workshops, covering areas such as identifying high-risk equipment areas, inspection checks, and maintaining key documentation.

Lantra Certified Training courses are:

  • Health and Safety Awareness – providing essential knowledge and understanding of health and safety awareness for winter service operations, including identifying hazards and applying de-icing materials.
  • Prepare and Operate Winter Service Vehicles and Equipment – evaluating knowledge and understanding of preparing and operating winter service vehicles across a range of weights.

Family-run Econ Engineering is the UK’s leading manufacturer of winter and highway maintenance vehicles. Recently, the company launched the E-QCB, the first fully electric model of its kind.

Econ, which has been established for more than 55 years, has its main manufacturing base in Ripon, with engineering hubs in Alloa, Scotland, Sowerby, Thirsk, Halesworth, Suffolk and Cardiff.
