IIoT Enables Better Safety

A new report from PSFK shows that IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies can make a meaningful difference to improve working conditions and the overall efficiency. It enables better safety protocols and quicker fixes to maintenance issues for manufacturers that use it.

Manufacturers, together with other industry professionals, are turning to the IIoT to optimise efficiency throughout labour, operations and logistics. In addition, IIoT connected devices can help to ensure that workers maintain proper safety protocols and adhere to instructions, especially in the case of safety malfunctions on the factory floor, the construction site or at points along the supply chain.

Moreover, the real-time analytics and aggregate performance data that is drawn from the IIoT sensors will inform manufacturers and third-party services of past and present conditions, aiming to accurately forecast maintenance issues before they occur.

PSFK researchers looked into the trends of ‘safety control’ and ‘predictive troubleshooting’ to better understand the ways in which IIoT can enable better safety practices within the realm of manufacturing. For example, the IoT sensors can ensure that job sites maintain proper productivity and safety needs. The IoT solution for networkless areas includes embedding sensors in equipment and worker tools to keep track of workers, reduce errors and ensure safety compliance.

Industrial customers will be able to know exactly when their equipment needs maintenance by ‘listening’ to its vibrations. The vibration sensor feeds data about the vibrations wirelessly to the cloud, analyses it and presents it to users.

Injuries will be prevented with the use of a vest with integrated sensors that is capable of shifting heavy loads from injury-prone parts of the body to stronger areas. These devices make the wearer adopt proper lifting positions, helping them avoid any potential injuries.
