Robot That Morphs into a Car : Japanese engineers have created a first in the history of robots by unveiling a robot that transform into a car that can carry people on board. The 3.7-metre-tall two-seater real life robot “J-deite RIDE” can transform into a sports car in a process that takes about a minute, and it can technically walk at a speed of 100 metres per hour or drive on its four wheels.

Kenji Ishida, Brave Robotics Chief Executive, initiated this co-project with Asratec, an affiliate of the Japanese mobile phone giant SoftBank.

Inspired by his childhood transformer heroes in anime movies, Ishida said: “The robots I’ve seen in animation movies since childhood all had this kind of look and they transform into or combined with each other to become something else with people on board. So, I grew up believing that robots had to be capable of such things, which became my motivation to develop this robot.”

Kenji Ishida said that this invention is an attempt to inspire others and broaden the human imagination. Developers have already said they will begin using the technology for the entertainment industry, including amusement parks and street parades.
