Isover Has Been Awarded a Transport Contract to CM Downton
Isover, a leading manufacturer of insulation has awarded a transport contract to CM Downton. The manufacturing company has awarded a contract that is expected to last for five years and be worth in the region of £15 million. The final agreement of the contract has taken place after a tender process that was competitive, but saw CM Downton come out on top. Isover used the tender process in order to work out which company would be able to offer the best transport solution to meet the manufacturer’s requirements. CM Downton was found to offer a innovative transport solution for Isover that will focus on value and stability. These are important aspects of the logistic required by the insulation producer, as an expanding business. Isover works to manufacture a collection of wool insulation products and operates out of their factory in Runcorn. This factory is only 400m away from Downtonâs own facilities in the town meaning that the transport solutions provider is ideally located to offer their services as part of the transport contract. In the past transport providers worked to coordinate the operations of their own fleet as well as a number of different sub-contractors in order to collect the cargo from the factory. However the factory site has limited loading space without much expansion potential even as the volume of production increase. This restricted loading area led to scheduling issues and congestion of the site that had a negative impact on deliveries to the site. CM Downton offered a new solution where the finished insulation products were taken directly from the factory to the Downtown warehouse for storage, making room for Isover expansion in the future. The lack of delivery vehicles will also lead to easier transport administration and health and safety compliance process. The contract was first awarded in December 2016 ,and Downton took over the complete spectrum of operations at the end of May this year.
SAICA Paper Leader in Manufacturing has Extended the Contract With CM Downton
SAICA Paper is a leader in the manufacturing of corrugated cardboard. The paper manufacturer has extended the contract it has with the transport and logistics specialist CM Downton. The contract has been extended for another year and develops the relationship that the companies built when SAICA Paper opened its new Paper Mill which is located at Partington, Manchester in 2012. Being SAICA Paperâs main transport service provider means that CM Downton has to handle deliveries of baled recycled paper from sources across the UK and transport them to Partington as well as delivering finished paper reels to SAICA Paperâs customers in the Packaging industry throughout the UK. As well as managing these in-bound and out-bound transportations, CM Downton provides an onsite shunting service. CM Downton keep an on-site manager in order to liaise with the manufacturer while fulfilling this on-sire role. There are a number of challenges faced by CM Downton while transporting large amounts of recycled paper. The transport company has to work with SIACA Paper as well as the wider industry in order to make sure they do not exceed any regulations and requirements in the area of load security. These challenges are overcome by using efficient trailer designs and including features such as non-slip floors in their vehicles. Other features of the vehicles used to transport recycled paper to Partington are load bearing curtains and load security systems. There is also extensive driver training carried out by CM Downton to ensure the role is carried out effectively. CM Downton also provide their transport services to SAICA Paperâs sister businesses SAICA Pack and SAICA Natur. These services are dealt with under separate contracts, although using the same logistics service across all their businesses has allowed an integrated approach to Downtonâs services, meaning the transport company can deal with the individual needs of each branch of the SAICA company as well as provide transport synergies, efficiencies and cost savings for each branch. CM Downton Extends Contract with DS Smith Plastics
It appears that transport and logistics specialist CM Downton is still the number one choice of partner for DS Smith Plastics, after it was confirmed that the contract had been extended for a further two years, meaning that the two companies will have the opportunity to continue growing the strong relationship that has been built up since joining forces in 2014. This strong relationship is the key reason as to why plastics packaging manufacturer DS Smith Plastics has made the decision to extend the contract, and since the pair have been working together there has been significant service improvements, cost savings and enhanced capabilities for Downton during the two years. The relationship and track record we have built up with DS Smith Plastics resulted in the extension against strong competition, commented David Hutchings, the Head of Business Development at CM Downton. Itâs great for us to support another leading business in Gloucestershire and it demonstrates our ability to devise and implement a flexible solution to meet a demanding customerâs requirements. As part of the deal, CM Downton work each day on delivering up to ten multi-drop loads of plastic packaging each day from the DS Smith Plastics manufacturing plant in Gloucester, in a service provided to customers from all areas of the UK. A flexible solution is provided through a combination of stand trailers and live loading, and delivery notifications are sent and received by midday each day, with the customerâs receiving products as soon as the following day. CM Downton has managed to grow into a highly successful company since forming in 1995, with a capacity and scale of a major multi-national logistics provider. Working alongside DS Smith Plastics has only increased Downtonâs stature and capabilities, and therefore the news of a two year extension is fantastic for the business!
