Iphone and Android – The Functionality of the Phone and its Apps

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus recently took the technology world by storm, with the products receiving rave reviews from critics around the world. The functionality of the phone and its apps has stepped up the game, so has this widened the gap now between Apple and its previously fierce competitor Android? Well, reports have revealed that this has certainly proved to be the case, and Apple has even set a new iPhone sales record in the process. The proof really is in the profit, but is everybody really as happy with the latest Apple products as the media may suggest? If you take Googleâs stance on the matter for example, then it would appear not. Google are in fact currently in the process of creating a new operating system called Android O, with a developer preview of the system having already been released. The Android O is set to have a big impact on developers and the products the company can make, and it could be just what is required to shake up the smartphone market. So, what are the bookies making of the situation? The current odds on app developers creating more gaming apps for Android O than iOS in 2017 are priced at 2/5, with odds on Google Play revenue actually surpassing that of the App Store standing at a tempting 7/1. It is hard to really say right now how it will pan out between the two software giants in the near future, but if we are to trust in the experts then it would suggest that despite Android producing more apps it will not come close to overtaking Appleâs revenue dominance. However, Google may well close the gap, and in maybe five yearsâ time could we be looking at a switchover in the market?

Leaked Documents Suggest Apple Will Launch a Premium IPhone

A Chinese social media user has published what they claim are leaked manufacturing documents from Apple which appear to confirm rumours that the company will launch three iPhones in 2017 â “s” models of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and a redesigned, top-tier model internally codenamed “Ferrari,” Apple Insider reports. The blogger, who posted the document on one of China’s biggest social media platforms Sina Weibo (it was first noticed by Chinese technology site cnBeta), is known for leaking information from Apple’s East Asian supply chain. And the documents appear to confirm a list of rumours about features the “Ferrari” â perhaps a codename for the iPhone 8 or the iPhone 10 â will have. The rumoured features include an “AMOLED” panel â a new kind of OLED (organic light-emitting diode display) screen already used by Samsung â which would allow the phone to have a borderless, all-display front surface. Another rumour is that the OLED screen would be mounted on plastic, suggesting that it might be curved. This lines up with a report from The Wall Street Journal which says Apple is testing prototypes for new iPhones which may have a new design centered on a curved screen. Other rumoured features the document mentions include a glass-sandwich design (glass at the front and back of the phone), an “invisible” home button, and wireless charging. The “Ferrari” iPhone, which could be released to mark the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, will come with “a substantial internal redesign,” the leaked documents claim. The document also says that Apple is considering relocating the SIM card tray towards the bottom of the handset to make room for internal components. The iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, internally codenamed D20 and d21, are expected to have LCD displays like previous iPhones, the documents reveal. All of this is in line with speculation from KGI Securities, which pointed to three iPhone models in 2017, with only one sporting the new kind of OLED screen. Manager at an Apple supplier allegedly stole 5,700 iPhones and sold them for $1.5m

A former senior manager at Foxconn, one of Apple’s manufacturing partners, allegedly stole 5,700 iPhones and sold them on for than $1.5 million. AFP is reporting that the Taiwanese man, named only as Tsai, has been indicted over the allegations and faces trial, with a potential 10-year jail sentence if found guilty. The thefts are alleged to have happened in Shenzen in China, where Foxconn has factories. He allegedly had eight employees smuggle out iPhone 5 and 5s handsets between 2013 and 2014, then selling them on for millions. The Taiwanese company apparently first noticed the issue after an internal audit, and Tsai was arrested then bailed in 2016. Foxconn is one of Apple’s key suppliers, helping manufacture iPhones and other products for the Cupertino company â as well as other major tech companies. It has more than 1.3 million employees, and has previously been criticised over working conditions â an issue highlighted by employee suicides. Apple did not immediately provide Business Insider with a comment. Samsung Enjoys 10% Growth in Profits This Quarter But Will It Last?

Samsung Electronics has reported a 10% hike in quarterly profits this year, attributing its rip-roaring success to strong sales of its latest Galaxy S7 smartphone. The technology and mobile phone market leader, originating in South Korea, has reportedly smashed forecasted operating profits â suggesting its first growth in annual profit for three years. The firm also appears to be enjoying new support for its mid-to-low range of mobile devices, posting improved sales performance on 2015. Figures for Samsungâs operating profit for this quarter are said to be in region of some 6.6trâ© (the equivalent of £4bn). Business analysts originally estimated a figure of 5.6â© and, while the firm will not release a full breakdown of figures until later this month, it has clearly exceeded all expectations. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is, by and large, leading the tech giantâs growth. The model has proven a winner with consumers â boasting an improved quality camera and larger data storage with microSD compatibility. In fact, analysts have suggested that Jan-Mar 2016 could well be the first quarter for nearly two years that the mobile phone arm of the business has led profits. While the outlook for Samsung is, at this moment in time, largely positive, detractors have been quick to recall the rise and fall of the Galaxy S6 last year. Despite comparably positive reactions early on, the S6 experienced a spectacular fall from grace with customers after a string of RAM mismanagement problems. Of course, the Galaxy S7 is neither the first nor last new model released this year. With stern competition from Appleâs iPhone SE and Huawei Technologiesâ upcoming P9 handset, the questions remains whether Samsungâs latest offering will remain in favour. The two have each received rave reviews from early reporters. Nevertheless, the firm can find hope in new customer faith for its mobile arm â however temporary â and, with almost 100 subsidiaries, Samsung is doubtless here to stay.
BAE Systems Wages War on Cybercrime With Top Trumps Style Campaign

Cybercrime is the newest and biggest threat to the modern world. It not only has the potential to compromise national security but can make businesses vulnerable to dissolution, rapidly slowing down production as well as the pace at which firms can innovate. In light of the increasing risk to companies and consumers, the UKâs largest and most prolific defence and aerospace manufacturer, BAE Systems, has created a playing card mock-up of the most dangerous cyber-security threats currently faced in order to increase awareness amongst organisations with a view to preventing susceptibility to attack. In recent years, cyber attacks have been successfully launched against some of worldâs largest companies, including Facebook, Apple, Lenovo and Target. As many as 29,475 incidents of cybercrime were reported last year. As a result, customers personal details have been accessed and potentially sold on, businesses have been taken offline, pioneering prototypes have been stolen, and sensitive information has been compromised. In order to highlight the ongoing threat to businesses, BAE Systems has produced a Top Trumps inspired card game based on the greatest and most frequent offenders in the cybercrime stakes. As in the popular card game, the defence expert has detailed cybergangsâ worst exploits as well the level of threat they pose to companies. There is evidence to suggest, however, that practices of cyber security are improving and becoming more prevalent. The financial services sector, in particular, appears to have recognised the severity of cybercrime; the industry as a whole has spent an estimated $75bn improving its defences against cyber attack. BAE Systems has continues to play a vital role in such improvement and the firm has a reported a sales increase in cyber defence software and strategies of 18% last year â far exceeding the growth of its core defence division. And despite being a somewhat busy marketplace, defence groups such as BAE Systems have proven popular with businesses looking for maximum protection against cyber attack is view of the wealth of experience they possess in full-scale, national defence. Successfully diversifying into cyber defence from its standing in traditional, governmental defence, BAE Systems is expected to make a significant contribution to local and well as national security in the coming years. And with the launch of its clever card game campaign, more and more businesses will no doubt pay greater attention to cybercrime and, with that, BAE Systems will reap the benefits.
