Pleuger Looks To Strengthen Its Presence In The Renewables Market

Pleuger Looks To Strengthen

Pleuger, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of submersible underwater pumps and motors, is stepping up its bid to be the supplier-of-choice for the renewables sector.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of submersible underwater pumps and motors for the energy, mining, water, industrial processing and oil & gas industries, Pleuger’s engineering know-how and vast experience is without question.

Successfully designing and manufacturing solutions for use in municipal water supplies, flood protection, mining, offshore wind farms and oil rigs has seen the Miami-headquartered company establish itself as the preferred supplier for an enviable group of global firms.

Pleuger Industries was acquired by Flacks Group in 2018. Flacks Group was founded and controlled by Michael Flacks, an international investor, and specialises in the acquisition and operational turnaround of medium sized businesses in complex situations, where a rapid solution is of paramount importance.

With every project viewed as a unique opportunity, Pleuger’s products are highly bespoke. It’s why it has been able to confidently tackle the emerging challenges faced by clients in the growing renewable energy sector. Now, an expanding presence in the market continues at pace. Indeed, it will amount to over 30% of orders in the next 12 months.

Pleuger’s rapid growth is certainly helped by its reputation. But there is an even more important reason why clients are choosing it as their vendor. Whether it is pumps and motors or thruster ship drives and monitoring solutions, its products are durable, reliable and, importantly, efficient.

For instance, its patented bearings, water-cooling systems, and utilisation of permanent magnet motors offer clients both cost and performance assurances. Not only reducing the energy burden of their operation, maintenance is minimised or eliminated, ensuring the product will go on working for decades in the most critical and harsh environments.

Renewable market penetration continues to increase. However, Pleuger has already established a strong presence supplying submersible pumps for converter stations for offshore wind. Fully designed and customised for clients on a case-by-case basis, Pleuger has provided reliable, highly efficient, and safe solutions for seawater lift and fire water applications for many clients.

Installed in external or integrated hull caissons, the pumps are built using high-grade materials such as Super Duplex stainless steel and equipped with all electrical accessories, such as junction boxes, monitoring cabinets and complete drive systems.

Moreover, Pleuger transportation and storage equipment ensures a low-maintenance and environmentally friendly installation, while its motor monitoring solutions, which continuously check temperature, vibration and conductivity, provide further peace of mind.

Elsewhere, Pleuger has been able to leverage its expertise to custom-build highly efficient hot water submersible pumps which support those clients exploring geothermal energy reservoirs. Its pumps are used worldwide in a range of district heating projects, including the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland.

Continuing its push towards the renewable energy sector, Pleuger recently appointed Andreas Schulte as Chief Commercial Officer to take a leading role in its expansion. Anton Schneerson, CEO Pleuger Industries, said, “Our engineers’ knowledge and understanding of the underwater pumps and motors used in the energy sector translates to renewables.

“Andreas will bring a wealth of experience from his many years in the industry at the world’s largest pump companies. His arrival is aligned with our global renewable strategy to reinforce our position in the market, and will strengthen our push deeper into the renewable energy sector.”

There’s an understandably high degree of confidence. “Being an approved vendor for decades for the giants in oil & gas defines your engineering capability, certification and quality assurance,” adds Anton. “There are few fields of engineering as demanding as oil & gas and we have a successful track record that has, for many years, distinguished us within the market.

“One of the great challenges in today’s world is satisfying the demand for a product or service right now. People want things today. They do not want to wait. For us, it’s about collaborating with customers to develop a solution that will meet their requirements reliably and effectively. That isn’t done in an instant.

“Our customers understand that. British Petroleum, Shell, Exxon Mobil, Saudi Aramco, Total and others have worked with us and our engineers for a long time because they know we will deliver a product that will last for decades, crucially ensuring the continuation of their processes. We’re now doing that for a growing number of clients in the renewable energy sector.”
