Gen Phoenix Partners With Axil to Support Sustainability Goals

Axil

Gen Phoenix, producers of high-performance materials made from leather diverted from landfill, has signed a new recycling and waste management contract with Axil Integrated Services.

Under this partnership, Axil will support Gen Phoenix to manage any waste at its two sites in Peterborough.

Gen Phoenix, producers of a sustainable alternative to traditional leather, has announced a new three-year partnership with Axil Integrated Services (Axil) to further enhance its management of  production waste.

Gen Phoenix is a producer of high-performance, sustainable materials made from leather diverted from landfill.  Thousands of tonnes of material are rescued from landfill each year to make products that are stronger, more powerful and more beautiful

than before. As an expert in sustainable waste management, Axil will provide total waste management services to Gen Phoenix, including state of the art recycling and recovery strategies.

Under this new, partnership, Axil will work to help the Gen Phoenix team to even further reduce their carbon footprint, centralise their waste management, and think innovatively about continually moving further up the waste management hierarchy.

Barrie Hill, Purchasing Manager at Gen Phoenix said:

“Gen Phoenix puts sustainability and circularity at the heart of everything we do, including our production process. We are proud that we save leather from landfill so that it can be reengineered into a high-performance, luxury material which is radically better for the planet.”

“That is why it’s important that we always challenge ourselves to think progressively about our own production processes  and how we can continually improve. Partnering with Axil, will bring leading expertise to our own knowledge and passion to continually improve our existing waste management practices.

As part of this project, Axil is conducting a review of the waste processes at both sites, as well as installing new, up to date equipment, including compactors. Axil is also improving recycling processes within the Gen Phoenix office and factory, allowing them to increase even further the recycling levels at the source.  An early example of working in partnership has been to divert used pallets into reuse and community wood recycling.

Commenting on the partnership, Jason Lang, Commercial Director at Axil Integrated Services, said:

“At Axil, we help organisations to find innovative solutions to manage their waste, and their carbon footprint, and we are passionate about the circular economy. As such, we are excited to be working with Gen Phoenix. The Gen Phoenix team are world class innovators in this space, recovering high quality materials which would otherwise become waste, and giving them a new life. We look forward to working alongside Gen Phoenix  to support the team to adopt new innovation in all aspects of recycled materials and managing waste streams”
