The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), the UK’s Trade Association for all metal recyclers, would like to thank its members, who have helped to raise a massive £41,913.45 for Alzheimer’s Society in 2023.

Raffles and auctions held at the BMRA’s Golf Day and Annual Dinner over the year, as well as Photography Competition prize donations, saw the total reach this remarkable milestone.

Each year, the BMRA’s President, Susie Burrage OBE, selects a charity that funds will be raised for. Ms Burrage added: “In recent years, we’ve been delighted by the generosity of our members who participate in our fundraising activities, especially when both individuals and businesses have been challenged by rising costs.

“The amount raised for Alzheimer’s Society has astonished us, and we are extremely grateful to our members for their generosity and support. This money will enable Alzheimer’s Society to make a real difference to people living with dementia, along with the research it funds to understand the causes, develop effective treatments, improve care and hopefully find a cure.”

Natalie Skipper, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said: “This is a truly remarkable achievement, and I can’t thank BMRA members enough for their incredible support.

“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and one in three people born today will go on to develop the condition in their lifetime.

“Alzheimer’s Society is here to provide help and hope to everyone affected by dementia – past, present and future.

“For anyone concerned about their memory, or that of a loved one, it’s important to seek a diagnosis because it will unlock the door to vital information, practical advice and emotional support.

“There is a free symptoms checklist on our website at alzheimers.org.uk/memoryloss  which is endorsed by the Royal College of GPs. It can be filled out, downloaded and shown to a person’s doctor as a conversation starter.”
