Knorr-Bremse AG, global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle systems, has received the Global Sustainability Impact Award 2024 from the French energy technology group Schneider Electric. The award recognizes companies that make a significant contribution to sustainable transformation through consistent performance and innovative products for decarbonization and digitalization. Mainly through its Austrian subsidiary Zelisko, Knorr-Bremse supplies Schneider Electric with cutting-edge instrument transformers and sensors that are instrumental for recording and controlling energy flows efficiently.
Frank Weber, Chief Financial Officer of Knorr-Bremse AG: “The award conferred by our partner Schneider Electric is testament to our commitment to a sustainable future. We at Knorr-Bremse put sustainability front and center of our corporate strategy and view it as a key factor for success. After all, investing in sustainable technologies and processes pays dividends not only from an environmental perspective, but also in monetary terms.”
Knorr-Bremse impressed the jury with its ambitious climate strategy: The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions across all scopes by 2050 with interim targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75% (versus 2018) and relevant Scope 3 emissions by 25% (versus 2021) by 2030. Knorr-Bremse has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, among other measures, by continuously implementing a stringent energy efficiency program, promoting the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy, and sourcing 99% of its electricity from renewable sources.
Knorr-Bremse is further committed to decarbonizing its supply chain by sourcing low-emission materials and promoting energy efficiency improvements in supplier production processes. Its product portfolio also helps customers to implement their own sustainable development goals through energy- and emission-efficient operation of end products during the use phase.
The jury declared Knorr-Bremse to be one of the most consistent performers in Schneider Electric’s The Zero Carbon Project, which helps companies around the world to reduce their carbon emissions.
Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Impact Award is awarded annually to companies that take specific action to decarbonize their own operations and/or help their customers decarbonize. This year, seven companies around the world received the award from a total of over 450 applications, with Knorr-Bremse the only winner from Germany.
