NewPower, the UK’s leading repowering specialist for public transport, is accelerating its mission to electrify bus fleets with the integration of advanced rapid charging infrastructure from Ryze Power.

The installation of the super-fast DC charger at NewPower’s facility in Bicester, Oxfordshire, signals a deepening strategic relationship between the two companies and a glimpse into the scalable, intelligent energy ecosystems of the future.

Wrightbus is the first OEM to offer a repowering service, utilising the unique skills of its workforce to swap diesel for electricity. Its master technicians built the original buses and have unrivalled expertise in being able to swap powertrains with re-powered buses already on the UK’s streets.

The process allows fleet operators and councils to extend vehicle life while cutting emissions, with hundreds of converted buses now in operation across the UK.

CEO Jean-Marc Gales said: “Not only does this strategic addition ensure that every repowered bus leaves NewPower fully charged and ready for immediate deployment, it highlights exactly how we can help fleet operators and depots electrify their operations seamlessly.”

Every repowered bus at NewPower undergoes a rigorous 400-mile road test before delivery. To meet this operational demand, Ryze Power has delivered a high-powered DC charging system tailored for commercial fleet usage. The charger is able to power a bus in as little as 45 minutes, enabling a seamless testing and delivery process.

Led by a senior team with more than 20 years’ experience in transport charging infrastructure, Ryze Power is already future-proofing the technology; although the charger is currently set at 160kw, it is capable of delivering 400kw.

At the core is Ryze Power’s advanced Charge Point Management System (CPMS), which tracks real-time data such as vehicle type, charging time, energy delivered, and speed, providing crucial insights for both operational planning and environmental reporting.

“Smart charging is the backbone of smart fleets,” said Ryze’s Alex Webster. “Our work with NewPower shows how infrastructure can be intelligent, scalable, and seamlessly integrated into broader energy and fleet systems.

“As public and private fleet operators navigate the transition to electrification, the partnership between NewPower and Ryze Power offers a model of what’s possible: efficient vehicle conversion paired with cutting-edge infrastructure that’s ready to scale. The collaboration demonstrates how thoughtful infrastructure investment can accelerate fleet electrification, reduce operational costs, and support the UK’s journey toward net zero.”
