Acciona Energy has secured further work on photovoltaic and wind schemes in Chile. The company is currently building the 183MW San Gabriel wind farm, which received an investment of approximately â¬250 million. The wind farm is expected to enter service at the end of 2019 or early 2020.
In early 2019, Acciona will start construction work on the 62MWp-capacity Almeyda photovoltaic plant, expected to be completed at the end of the same year. The plant will contain solar modules with horizontal tracker technology and it will cover 150 ha in Diego de Almagro in the Atacama region. A few months after that, work on a 64 MWp Usya photovoltaic plant will commence and it will be ready by mid-2020. It will have modules mounted on fixed structures and will cover 105 hectares in Calama in the region of Antofagasta.
The two photovoltaic plants received a total investment of around â¬125 million and the energy produced by them will cover Accionaâs supply commitment taken on in an agreement recently signed with the National Mining Company of Chile (ENAMI).
We are undertaking major investments over this three-year period, which will considerably strengthen our presence in the thriving renewable energy sector in Chile, said Acciona Energy CEO, South America, José Ignacio Escobar.
Moreover, the company will also build the Tolpan wind farm, a facility with an initially planned capacity of 87MW.
Acciona currently has 291 MW of renewables in service in Chile: 246 MWp in the El Romero Solar photovoltaic plant in the region of Atacama and 45MW in the Punta Palmeras wind farm in the region of Coquimbo. With the facilities under construction and those planned for the 2018-2020 period, the company will reach a capacity of 700MW in the country – 372 MWp in photovoltaic energy and 315 MW in wind energy.
