Electrogenic is known for delivering fully-formed EV powertrain solutions to its international EV conversion partners, for low-volume car manufacturers, and the Defence sector.
Steve Drummond, Electrogenic CEO, said: “We’ve seen demand for EV technology take off in the USA over the past couple years, with a growing number of EV companies doing some really innovative work. This rapid market expansion has now prompted us to offer our proprietary systems integration software and electronics to US automotive specialists as individual items for the first time. These innovative components, the ‘secret sauce’ behind the global success of our ‘drop in’ conversion kits, will now be offered to EV specialists and manufacturers across the USA, so that they too can build the EV of their dreams.”
As part of its SEMA display, the Oxford, UK based company will showcase a Jaguar E-type (XK-E) Roadster, converted to effortless electric drive using its ‘drop-in’ kit technology. The true ‘plug and play’ EV package – which transforms useability, reliability and performance of this British icon – has been fitted by Ikonetic of California – one of Electrogenic’s expert North American installers.
The stunning Jaguar, and Electrogenic’s range of technology will be on public display from Tuesday 5 November until Friday 8 November on Electrogenic’s stand 24816, in the SEMA Future Tech Studio.
Market Leading Tech – chosen by Jason Momoa and the British Army
The E-type on display has been transformed by one of Electrogenic’s market leading, ‘plug and play’ EV conversion packages. The easy to install – and entirely reversible – kits seamlessly electrify iconic models using the firm’s innovative, market-leading EV powertrain technology, which is all developed by Electrogenic’s team in Oxford, UK.
The exhaustively developed packages, exclusively use brand-new, Tier 1 automotive components and are available for a wide range of iconic models, including the DeLorean DMC-12, Land Rover Defender, Porsche 911 and classic Mini. The kits are offered worldwide via Electrogenic’s carefully vetted installer network, which includes numerous outfits across the United States.
Electrogenic is also announcing the further expansion of its North American partner network at SEMA, with addition of Hesp Originals, based in British Columbia. Hesp will be the first Electrogenic partner serving the Canadian market. Hesp Originals is a renowned Land Rover specialist in BC that has been carrying out EV conversions for its clients for many years. Hesp’s expert team understands the in-depth benefits of being ‘Powered By Electrogenic’ and having access to the market-leading EV tech.
Electrogenic is already famous for its sector-defining bespoke EV conversions. Recent projects have included the electrification of a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, completed for Hollywood star, Jason Momoa. The Phantom featured in Momoa’s television show, On The Roam episode ‘The Phantom and the Electric’, which was nominated for an EMA (Environmental Media Association) award. The Phantom II is widely acknowledged as the most complex EV conversion completed to date.
Electrogenic’s sector-leading knowledge and proprietary technology is also used to deliver ‘turn-key’ EV powertrain solutions for car manufacturers (OEMs) and the Defence industry, including for the British MoD working in partnership with Babcock International. This is now being offered to B2B customers in the USA for the first time.
Drummond, continued: “We’re hugely excited to present our full range of sector-leading proprietary EV powertrain tech, including our game-changing ‘drop-in’ electrification kits, sophisticated Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), systems integration software and electronics, here at SEMA. The US EV market is really vibrant and we have been listening to our customers, who want to be able to apply our sector-leading EV integration technology and control systems to their own projects. So we have opened the cookie jar to supply our customers with technology that up till now we have applied only to our complete EV powertrains. This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Electrogenic as we offer our entire suite of proven leading EV powertrain tech to the growing US B2B market.
“We’ve been hard at work building the foundations of our US operation over the past couple of years, developing a carefully vetted roster of exceptional partners to install our ‘drop in’ EV kits. These kits include options for iconic models, from the Jaguar E-type on our stand at SEMA, Land Rover Defender and Series and classic Mini, to Porsche 911, DeLorean DMC-12 and Triumph Stag. These sophisticated kits, which transform useability, reliability and performance, ensure that these wonderful machines can be cherished – and driven – for generations to come.
“I am delighted to announce that our North American partner network is now extending into Canada, with the addition of Hesp Originals. Hesp Originals are real experts in EV as well as Land Rovers, so I am particularly delighted that they have chosen to partner with us – it’s a true compliment for our technology, and a great opportunity for their customers, who will now get the benefit of being Powered by Electrogenic.
“Now, building on the success of our drop-in kit range, we’re expanding our North American product offering further to encompass our full range of EV powertrain integration solutions. B2B customers in the US and Canada will now have access our entire suite of award-winning EV technology – from tried and tested hardware to sophisticated, flexible software solutions – including our market-leading Vehicle Control Units (VCUs) and proprietary vehicle electronics.
“This comprehensive range of EV systems integration products will make it easier than ever before for automotive businesses to access Electrogenic’s proven, market leading EV tech, enabling them to truly create the EV of their dreams.”
Technology Showcase: An E-type Transformed
The stunning E-type on show at SEMA has been transformed thanks to Electrogenic’s proprietary EV powertrain kit – future-proofing a British design icon for years to come.
The easy to install, entirely reversible package – which has been fitted by one of Electrogenic’s US partners, the California based Inokinetic – gives the stunning 1960s machine sensational, clean electric performance – transforming useability and ensuring total reliability.
Finished in a stunning hue of opalescent silver blue, the E-type sports the E43 package which equips the classic with 43kW of brand-new, OEM-grade batteries for 150+ miles of range in real world driving.
With 160bhp (120kW) and, crucially, 460 lb/ft (620Nm) of instant torque (at the prop shaft), the E43 kit equipped E-Type can hit 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Thanks to those reserves of torque, it packs real performance punch at any speed. The kits drive through a neatly packaged single-speed, fixed ratio transmission
Electrogenic’s E-type Kit range also includes larger-capacity E48 and E63 options, which feature 48kW and 63kW of batteries, delivering 160 and 200+ miles of range respectively.
For E-types, the motor bolts into the space vacated by the gearbox and the cleverly packaged batteries are nestled low down in the engine bay, replacing the cast-iron engine block, and at the rear of the car instead of the fuel tank and spare wheel. Weight distribution is carefully optimised to ensure superb, natural handling.
Thanks to the use of cutting-edge, lightweight componentry, extra weight is kept to a minimum – in fact, the E43 and E48 variants are both lighter than the standard car. Even in large battery E63 form, an Electrogenic electrified E-Type weighs no more than a conventionally powered example.
The sophisticated packages have been extensively developed by Electrogenic’s engineering and software development teams to include all the modern features a driver could need. The E-Type packages have carefully optimised Eco, Sport and Traffic profiles, honed over the course of an extensive testing programme, along with energy-recouping regen for the brakes and throttle. The settings are infinitely configurable and can be tailored to an owner’s specific requirements.
The original Smiths instruments have been repurposed to display vital information; the fuel gauge now shows state of charge, the oil temperature gauge is now charger temperature, engine temperature is now motor temperature, while RPM shows RPM of motor with a scale factor of half.
Electrogenic’s E-Type kit is compatible with Series 1 to 3 cars, in both Coupe and Roadster form. All kits include rapid CCS charging as standard, for total convenience. A full charge via CCS takes around 50 minutes.
