Haley Group Celebrates 40 Years of Supporting UK Manufacturing and Skills

Professor Tim Minshall

The Haley Group has marked the start of its 40th anniversary celebrations by welcoming Professor Tim Minshall, Head of the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, to speak to engineers from across the Group on the importance of manufacturing capability, engineering skills and innovation.

The event reflected the Group’s long-term commitment to engineering excellence and people development, following four decades of growth built on rescuing and investing in specialist engineering businesses. Over the past 40 years, the Haley Group has successfully brought multiple companies out of administration, safeguarding critical skills and creating sustainable employment across the UK.

Today, the Haley Group employs around 170 people across its operating companies, supporting key UK infrastructure and engineering projects across multiple sectors.

Professor Minshall’s talk explored the importance of strong design thinking, resilient manufacturing capability and technical expertise in supporting innovation, continuous improvement and long-term growth — themes that closely align with the Haley Group’s journey and values.

The event also formally launched a year of milestone celebrations across the Group, including:

● 40 years of the Haley Group

● 40 years of William Haley Engineering within the Haley Group

● 35 years of FLI Structures within the Haley Group

● 10 years of George Jackson within the Haley Group

● 1 year of Concept Fabrications Cymru within the Haley Group

Founded in 1986, the Haley Group has grown into a multi-disciplinary engineering and manufacturing group by rescuing specialist businesses, protecting critical skills and investing in people for the long term. As it marks 40 years in operation, the Group continues to focus on building resilient manufacturing capability, creating sustainable employment and supporting UK infrastructure across multiple sectors.

The anniversary programme will continue throughout the year, with further announcements planned as the Group reflects on its journey while continuing to invest in future capability,
