Ficep UK has launched its most advanced gantry CNC system to date, the Gemini Laser. A first-of-its-kind system, the Ficep Gemini brings together high-powered fibre laser cutting and precision machining in a single automated platform.
For engineers and manufacturers working with large-format and heavy plates, the Gemini Laser aims to streamline production by reducing material handling, accelerating cycle times and eliminating secondary operations.
Building on the success of Ficep’s original Gemini system, the laser system offers fibre laser sources powered up to 30 kW, with higher outputs available for specific applications. It is capable of processing mild and stainless steel plates up to 60mm thick and eliminates the need for multiple machines.
Its heavy-duty cutting gantry guides the laser head to ensure precise cutting performance, while an optional 45-degree bevel head allows for internal bevelled holes as well as for complex weld preparations directly on plate edges. The machine’s 7,000 RPM spindle with automatic tool changers support drilling, tapping, countersinking and milling operations requiring tight tolerances.
The Gemini Laser’s robust gantry design and precision-ground helical racks minimise deflection during machining tasks. Plate-referencing is picked up by the laser and automatically rotated by the nesting programs. Integrated clamps secure plate handling during processing, and its optional robotic unloading system reinforces its Industry 4.0 credentials.
Chris Berriman, Ficep UK sales director says: “The Gemini Laser redefines what is possible in plate processing. By integrating high-power cutting and multi-process machining within a single system, it’s a game-changing solution for UK engineers across structural fabrication, shipbuilding, energy and heavy engineering sectors. This combination of thermal and mechanical processing offers outstanding cutting performance which is highly efficient and accurate.”
The Gemini Laser is supported by Ficep UK’s technical team, providing expert installation, training and after-sales service across the UK.
