Advanced Engineering Show announcement: New Aerospace Standard Composites Factory Operational in Morocco

Rockwood Composites, the ‘out-of-autoclave’ composite components manufacturer, today (1 November 2023) announced that its 21,000ft2 factory in Morocco is now operational.

The facility, part of a new subsidiary of Rockwood Composites Ltd, is dedicated to high-volume, low-cost manufacturing primarily focussing on the Aerospace Industry. Its staff team include mechanical and composites engineers some of whom are currently in the process of training at their headquarters in the UK.

Rockwood Composites is a specialist in ‘design for manufacture’ and offers long run and small volume production, tooling design and development. It has already built a solid reputation in aerospace, defence and cryogenics and is expanding into automotive and leisure.

Opening the Morocco Facility is part of a strategic plan to quadruple compression and bladder moulding capacity in the next five years and follows a relocation of its UK facilities to a larger factory in South Devon.

The company has invested in new machinery, including a Hexagon Absolute Arm for quality control measures and a further HURCO CNC for greater machining capacity.

Mark Crouchen, Rockwood Composite’s managing director, said: “There is a huge demand within the aerospace industry for low-cost light-weight composite components and structures, for example aircraft interiors and eVTOL propellors plus many other complex high-volume parts. Our Moroccan facility is on plan to produce product in volume, achieving huge efficiencies of scale.”

“Though our UK capacity is focused largely on other industries, by being reactive we can shift our production focus to meet customer demands.”

“This is an exciting time for Rockwood, and we are proud to be a part of an industry achieving tremendous growth and moving toward a better future.”

You can find out more about Rockwood Composites by visiting www.rockwoodcomposites.com or by talking to its engineers at stand X120 at the Advanced Engineering Show.

The company will be presenting live demonstrations of expanding core and bladder moulding from pre-preg materials at the show, illustrating the simplicity of this production technique.
