The Northampton-based manufacturing company, Igus has recently had the official opening of their newly expanded facility. The high-tech manufacturing company has added an upper floor to their facility, which has freed up the ground-floor space to be fully utilised by the engineering team.
Igus employs 110 people in a range of different roles such as production, advanced plastic components, bearings and chains. The expansion of their site has allowed Igus the extra space needed for their current engineering projects while also creating the opportunity to increase their workforce significantly. This expansion and development plans have come only a year after the company celebrated their 25th anniversary in the UK.
The company are looking to continue their work by listening to the needs of their customers across the UK and the continuously developing a range of different products and services. The extension of their facility will help the company to keep up with the market as the UK manufacturing industry embraces more and more developed and efficient manufacturing methods. Igus have seen an increase in demand for the ready-assembled packages that are cost effective and can then quickly be deployed on site. By paying attention and responding to their customersâ needs, Igus has been seen a number of consecutive years of double-digit growth in the company turnover. No doubt with the extension of their Northampton site this success will continue.
Igusâ plant has an open-plan workspace that has been especially designed in order to encourage higher levels of employee engagement, as well as more collaboration and the sharing of ideas when developing new products and services. The company runs a number of initiatives that are aimed at supporting young engineers, such as an apprenticeship programme as well as providing a range of products for use by students and researchers who are working on a wide range of projects.
