Why Lockinex Believes GRP Is Transforming Safety within the Rail and Maritime Industries

Lockinex

Lockinex UK Limited is a UKAS ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 accredited company that provides high-quality non-conductive and non-corrosive industrial safety solutions throughout both the rail and marine industries. Their high-quality GRP gratings, covers and modular railing systems have been installed at marinas and railways throughout the UK for the last 20 years.

As a supplier with a long-standing relationship with RISQS and as a partner with British Marine, Lockinex strives to offer their customers the best supplier experience possible.

Lockinex believes GRP has transformed the rail and maritime industries by improving on safety standards, sustainability and operational performance.

GRP (Glass Reinforced Polymer/Plastic) is a composite material composed of glass fibres which are bonded together with resins to create a durable material that is highly resistant to corrosion, electrical conductivity, fire and provides an anti-slip surface.Lockinex

Non-conductivity is an important consideration for installations within high-voltage areas or electrified environments which dominate our rail infrastructure. In fact, Network Rail and ORR even emphasise the need for non-conductive structures near live tracks to reduce the risks of injuries and fatalities which makes GRP an important option to consider.

Unlike other materials which can be susceptible to corrosion such as wood or metal, GRP is also highly corrosion-resistant in a number of chemical and marine environments. Because of this, there is less need for replacing or maintaining installations made from GRP.

GRP’s fire resistance and low flame spread is also a beneficial characteristic as they help minimise the risk of fires which can be catastrophic to both infrastructure and personnel.

The gritted surface of GRP also produces an excellent, durable non-slip flooring surface that significantly reduces the risk of accidents from slips, trips or falls which is critical in outdoor environments where it may become cold or slippery.

At Lockinex, they supply a diverse range of GRP systems including their gratings which are made from Isophthalic resin and tested to BS EN 13501-1:2018 Class B, S1, D0 flame spread as well as Modular Railing made from GRP components.

Other safety systems they supply include Armco Barrier, Collective Fall Protection, Roof Access Ladders and more.
