To deliver rail transit solutions capable of attracting more passengers, operators must take passenger comfort to a whole new level. Climate control, barrier-free entry/exit and general ease of access are all key factors in passenger-friendly rail travel. Knorr-Bremse offers a broad range of comfort-enhancing solutions, including state-of -the-art climate control and entrance systems – and will showcase them at InnoTrans 2024 in the “Traveling Comfort” exhibition space (Main Hall 1.2, Booth 250).
Perfect temperature control plus safe, clean, breathable in-train air
Since the pandemic, a safe, clean atmosphere in train compartments has become a key consideration for operators seeking to rebuild passengers’ trust in rail travel. At InnoTrans, Knorr-Bremse brand Merak will present solutions that make passenger compartments more comfortable by maintaining pleasant, even temperatures and removing pathogens from the air. Visitors interacting with the custom[air] exhibit will be able to combine different climate control technologies to create their own integrated air-supply solutions, including simulations of the company’s “real air feeling”: Passengers traveling in train compartments equipped with Merak’s clean[air] suite will have no difficulties breathing deeply and easily.
Modular and retrofittable, the suite’s customizable combination of fresh air, smart ventilation, highly efficient filters and air purifiers creates a healthier, more comfortable environment. Passengers traveling with participating operators can use an app to check the quality of the air in their train in real time. Key features for delivering pure, clean air include vertical air circulation and intelligent ventilation concepts, combined with air purification features for removing particulates, aerosols and pathogens such as UV-C lamps and electronic nearfields. Working together, they make a major difference both seasonally – in summer or winter – and when trains are filled to capacity, for example during rush hour.
Barrier-free access with ZeroStepBoarding
A core premise of modern rail travel is that it should be available and accessible to all. At InnoTrans, the ZeroStepBoarding entrance concept showcased by Group brand IFE enables passengers with reduced mobility – including people in wheelchairs or using walking aids – to easily enter and exit trains without any barriers. The ingenious entrance concept, sporting a TSI PRM-compliant threshold with 18% (10.2°) gradient and a step height of only 9 mm, is especially designed for use in intercity and high-speed trains with doorways up to 1.6 meters wide. The new sealing system does not require a matching counterseal on the ramp-shaped doorsill – the clever design is inherently capable of building up sufficient pressure to seal the train against the pressure waves caused whenever trains pass each other or enter tunnels.
Unlike other barrier-free solutions, ZeroStepBoarding works without any additional active elements such as hinged sealing flaps or rising steps. With less to go wrong, this reduced complexity results in higher availability and greater reliability. The ZeroStepBoarding door exhibit on display at InnoTrans is also fitted with a multifunctional access aid. In ramp mode, the aid does also meet the TSI PRM specifications.
ZeroStepBoarding – which can also be integrated into the train’s smart system monitoring solution – has a similarly positive impact on traffic flow. By making the boarding and alighting process safer and faster, the system speeds up train departures, saving customers and operators valuable time.
Meet up with Knorr-Bremse at #TalentCorner
