Cummins Receives Defence Employer Award

Cummins, a global leader in power solutions, has been honoured with the Silver Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), recognising its continued commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community, including Reservists, Veterans, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs), military spouses and partners.

This award highlights Cummins’ efforts to create an inclusive and supportive environment for those who serve, or have served, in the armed forces.

In February 2021, Cummins initially launched its European Veterans Employee Resource Group, and in November 2022, the company further solidified its commitment by signing the Armed Forces Covenant, achieving ERS Bronze status.

The ERS Silver Award reflects Cummins’ continued progress in supporting veterans transitioning to civilian careers. In 2023, the company piloted a Veterans Transition Process that led to permanent hires and established a Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG) to support both Reservists and Veterans.

Today, the Cummins ERG plays a key role in celebrating events like Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Day, as well as developing work experience programmes for cadets and volunteers.

Cummins’ proactive approach to veteran recruitment includes attending the National Transition Event, inviting veterans to submit their details for employment opportunities, and creating a dedicated “Veterans Interest Application” job posting.

The company also extends essential support to military spouses and partners through compassionate leave, flexible working arrangements, and job postings on Forces Family Jobs. These initiatives, alongside its broader efforts for Reservists and Veterans, underscore Cummins’ commitment to the Armed Forces community.

Lisa Hill, UK Prototype Planning and Scheduling Leader, said: “We are honoured to receive the Silver Award from the Defense Employer Recognition Scheme. At Cummins, we recognise the immense contributions and sacrifices made by the armed forces community, and we are committed to providing them with the support they deserve from potential employers. This award is a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a positive and inclusive environment for all members of the armed forces community.”

Major General Marc Overton: “I would like to express my sincerest congratulations to all 2024 Employer Recognition Scheme Silver award winners. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Scheme. In those 10 years, over 1500 employers have been awarded Silver for their outstanding support of the Armed Forces community – for employing, advocating for and supporting those who serve, veterans and their families. As a Reservist myself, I truly appreciate the support you provide and I am glad to see the flourishing relationship between employers and Defence in recent years. So, thank you again for your incredible support and congratulations on being 2024 Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award winners.”

Cummins is now setting its sights on achieving the Gold Award from the Defense Employer Recognition Scheme next year..

The Defense Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award is a highly esteemed accolade that recognises employers who have demonstrated exceptional support for the armed forces community.
