Partnership Has Been Formed Between StreetScooter GmbH, Deutsche Post Subsidiary and Ford-Werke GmbH

A partnership has been formed between StreetScooter GmbH, the Deutsche Post subsidiary and the Ford-Werke GmbH. The partnership that has been formed between the two companies in order to carry out the manufacturing of battery-electric delivery vehicles. Deutsche Post has already been quite successful in this sector by producing and emission free Street Scooter. The partnership will see the two companies develop this and work to have the same success when designing a larger vehicle.

The foundation of the project is a Ford Transit chassis which will then be fitted with a battery-electric drive train. The chassis will also have a specially designed body construction. This body will be made in order to comply with Deutsche Post and DHL Paket requirements. The production of this vehicle is expected to take place in July of this year. This partnership has had speedy results and it has been predicted that at the end of 218 there will be at least 2,500 vehicles employed to support Deutsche Post DHL Group  urban deliveries. With this number of vehicles expected to be used it is thought that the project undertaken by StreetScooter GmbH and the Ford-Werke GmbH will be the largest manufacturing of battery-electric delivery vehicles of a medium duty across Europe.

The project has been undertaken in order to reduce emissions. This ambition is shared by both Deutsche Post DHL Group and Ford and hopefully the partnership that has been formed in order to have this level of success will continue to make developments in this industry. Adopting electric vehicles will help with the improvement of the quality of life of people living and working in inner cities.

StreetScooter also has plans to manufacture 20,000 units of the electric delivery van. This volume of manufacturing has been made possible through the creation of the new assembly which there are plans to expand.
