A need for a partner able to meet its own flexible and proactive way of working has led to Owens Group, one of the UK’s leading transport, warehousing and express parcel delivery companies, to place a contract with Hireco for 22 brand new SDC high specification 3.1mtr internal loading height curtainsider trailers.
The investment is further testament to Owens Group planning ahead to support its customers during the peak Christmas trading period and beyond.
Andy Williams, Group Fleet Manager for Owens Group, said the company had used Hireco previously for ad hoc trailer hire. The contract for the new curtainsider trailers was their first lease of vehicles with Hireco.
Mr Williams said: “Hireco had the latest specification trailers with focus on safety in operation and could supply at the right price. We also felt Hireco shared the commitment to service excellence which underpins everything we do as an independent, family owned and run business.”
Owens Group was founded by Huw Owen in 1972, now the Managing Director, who was joined by his brother Eurof shortly afterwards, the firm’s Commercial Director to begin over 40 years of innovation and growth. There are three generations actively involved in the day to day operations and the company employs 1,100 people, operates a fleet of over 500 trucks and 850 trailers from depots in Llanelli, Port Talbot, Bridgend, Newport, Droitwich, Wrexham and Manchester.
Amongst its major customers are Nestle, Sofidel, Wepa, Envases, Amazon, InBev and Tata Steel.
Andy Graham, Sales Manager for Hireco who negotiated the contract, said he had felt what was important to Owens Group was flexibility in being able to supply curtainsider trailers quickly, to the right specification and at the right price.
Mr Graham added: “It is a fantastic piece of business for Hireco and we look forward to growing our relationship further with Owens Group.”
After more than 40 years, Hireco is much more than trucks and trailers. The company’s success has been built on establishing partnerships with its customers, for example, its ability to provide a range of innovative finance packages.
As leaders in the commercial leasing and finance marketplace, Hireco provides clients with expertly sourced assets, cost-effective financing, full maintenance management, efficient disposal and secure parking facilities, underpinned by outstanding customer service.
Hireco now operates more than 7,000 assets around the UK and Ireland; 70 percent of which are supplied to the country’s top 100 transport companies, often on bespoke contracts of three to ten years. One of the company’s trademarks is the age of its fleet, which is one of, if not the youngest in the business.
Hireco also has a Light Commercial Vehicle division which combines years of experience and knowledge in vehicle hire to provide a “one stop shop” solution bespoke to each customers requirement.
Hireco is the biggest buyer of new fleet vehicles in the UK, a position it has held for the last five years. At the heart of its fierce growth is a loyal customer base, ranging from smaller owner operator businesses to multinational 3PLs.
