The Modern Transport Bill revealed during The Queen’s Speech last week could drastically alter the UK’s automotive technology industry, experts suggest.

Last week’s speech outlined the government’s agenda for the next session and included policies that look to develop the country’s first commercial spaceports.

The aims of the Bill are to propel Britain to become leaders of the modern transport revolution by developing both spaceports and driver-less cars.

Also featured in the Bill are new laws in preparation for driver-less cars and spaceports as well as laws on drones in light of the recent number of collisions.

The Queen’s Speech at the opening of Parliament promised that the UK will lead the way in modern transport, including electric and autonomous vehicles.

Head of Manufacturing Business at Crowe Clark Whitehall, Jonathan Dudley, said that the Bill is positive news for UK manufacturing which now has the opportunity to show its skills to have a big influence on modern transport.

Mr Dudley pinpointed the driver-less car concept as a significant area of growth for the UK which will encourage ideas from manufacturers.

He added that the speech enhances the UK’s reputation as a safe manufacturer on a global scale and we can subsequently anticipate a crucial role in safety regulation.

He also said welcomed the added measures concerning flying drones in the wake of recent flying incidents involving them.

However, he emphasised their potential to revamp the logistics industry both in the UK and overseas.

He concluded by stating that the British manufacturing sector is in a good position to supply the huge drone market in the future as well as with driver-less cars.

The Modern Transport Bill indicated that the government values the drone industry to have a £2.74bn global worth and envisages that figure will rise to around £283.36bn in the next 10 years.
