Kapsch TrafficCom Working to Deliver Intelligent Transport Systems

Kapsch TrafficCom works to deliver intelligent transport systems throughout the areas of tolling, traffic management, traffic safety and security, smart urban mobility and connected vehicles. The company offers end-to-end solutions which means that Kapsch operates as a one-stop solutions provider that can deliver a complete value creation chain for their clients. Kapsch TrafficCom is well known around the world and operates in order to offer intelligent transportation systems in more than 50 countries globally. The business has their headquarters in Vienna, Austria and has been developing new technology for 125 years.

Kapsch TrafficCom has been chosen by The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, to design and develop as well as install and provide the service and maintenance for a turnkey regional Mobile Ticketing System. The project that has been requested by MARTA will be carried out with the help of Kapsch’s sister companies: Kapsch TrafficCom, Kapsch CarrierCom and Kapsch Public TransportCom.

The contract that has been awarded to Kapsch has been valued at around €10 million. The technology is expected to take 18 months to develop and implement for MARTA and the contract also covers a warranty and maintenance period of 3 years.

The new Mobile Ticketing System that is being developed as part of this contract will allow MARTA rider to order, pay and electronically validate their tickets via mobile smart services provided by this system being developed by Kapsch TrafficCom. The system that is being developed will allow users of the platform the capacity to use MARTA’s transit system throughout Atlanta, Georgia and surrounding communities.

This contract has been established from a competitive pilot scheme where companies were involved in creating Mobile Ticketing System solutions that adequately met MARTA’s requirements. Kapsch’s system will be utilised across MARTA’s networks, including 38 rail stations, 565 fixed route buses and 210 paratransit buses.
