Jaguar Land Rover has committed to an electric and hybrid future. Becoming the latest in a growing list of carmakers who are committing to a future of electric and hybrid powered cars, Jaguar have said that they will stop manufacturing cars that are powered only through the use of internal combustion engines.

Jaguar Land Rover is a car manufacturing company that is based in the UK. The company has always worked to deliver excellence in their vehicles and will now be making sure that all of the new models produced from 2020 will be either fully electric or hybrid. This announcement has followed the recent revelation that Volvo will be committing to a similar plan of action. It was revealed two months ago that Volvo will be working towards electric and hybrid-only cars.

The French and UK governments have possibly sparked these manufacturing developments by announcing that they will be banning all non-electric vehicles by 2040. Jaguar Land Rover revealed their single electric concept car last November, suggesting to some in the industry that the company’s plans to deliver on this commitment are ambitious. The carmaker has suggested that it would be beneficial to them to build an electric car plant in the UK which would serve a similar purpose to the Nissan facility which is located in Sunderland. However, no concrete plans have been released by the Uk-based car company.

Jaguar Land Rover has been seen by some as slow to expand into the electric and hybrid markets which could be a challenge for the manufacturing company, who will have to compete with companies such as Tesla and BMW who have been developing their technology for significantly longer.

It is great news that more and more car manufacturers, especially the leading names such as Jaguar Land Rover, are committing to the development of a more sustainable future.
