At Euro Bus Expo, GreenRoad will be using real-world examples to show how its new AI-based AskMila solution provides bus operators with the market’s only currently available predictive safety capability.
On Stand 160 at this year’s Euro Bus Expo (3-5 November, NEC Birmingham), GreenRoad will showcase the transformative effect that Artificial Intelligence (AI), with its predictive capabilities, is already having on passenger transportation safety.
The company will demonstrate how AskMila, its new AI safety expert companion, significantly reduces the chances of on-road incidents and accidents involving buses by helping drivers to improve their behaviours. Other benefits of the technology include much-enhanced environmental performance, punctuality, public perception and cost management.
GreenRoad has been a trusted ally to bus operators for over two decades. In that time, it has amassed unparalleled expertise in safety analysis and risk benchmarking, and in the provision of performance-enhancing solutions. The company remains best-placed as a partner with which to evolve and innovate, especially as new predictive technologies gain momentum.
The effectiveness of its solutions is evidenced by their adoption by 70 percent of the UK and Ireland’s bus operators, including such major names as Stagecoach, First Bus, Arriva, Metroline and more.
The company’s latest AI-supported solutions — in-cab software and hardware, apps for smart phones and tablets, and central data-analysis platforms — are already in operation, and real-world examples will be used to demonstrate their capabilities at Euro Bus Expo.
The most significant development is the arrival of AskMila, which adds greater levels of predictive analysis to products that were already providing class-leading performance.
AI, says CEO Yali Harari, is about far more than automating schedules and procedures. Rather, it enables very deep learning that can identify safety risks before they happen.
“We’re providing our passenger transport partners with some very powerful in-house predictive capabilities,” Harari says.
“An example is comparison of bus drivers’ behaviour with databases of past practices that have proven to be unsafe. A combination of real-time in-cab light/sound prompts and post-trip gamification is used to address any unsuitable habits that drivers may have. This results in predictive safety, with any driving issues addressed before a driver goes back on the road.
“Our very deliberate concentration on encouragement rather than punishment has resulted in hugely positive driver feedback,” Harari continues. “They appreciate that their performance and reputation are being protected, while safety and other key performance characteristics are enhanced. Our Fleet Elite programme is unique — a globally adopted performance standard that drivers wear with pride and often ask to take with them when they change jobs.”
From the bus operator perspective, a key aspect of the new conversational AI solution is the speed with which the widest range of needs can be addressed.
“Within just a few weeks of adopting AskMila, we’re seeing that operators are confident enough to set up more effective processes that address all sorts of risks and operational requirements.
“They very quickly move beyond manual report generation, which is time-consuming and labour-intensive, to creating in just minutes reports that, for example, pre-schedule which drivers will need specific interventions, decide which drivers are most suited to particular routes or vehicles, manage risk by individual route, vehicle or time of day, and address fuel price volatility.”
A next step is for GreenRoad to expand its customer base beyond the UK, Singapore, Australia and Dubai. Euro Bus Expo visitors can expect to learn more about a series of partnerships with other best-of-breed organisations that will expand the company’s influence internationally.
