Ginetta, the Leeds-based racing and sports car manufacturer, has acquired a US business in an attempt to launch a new North American operation. The company has established Ginetta North America with the help of a new 60,000 sq ft sales, distribution, manufacturing and engineering centre, based in South Boston, Virginia, and the acquisition of low volume sports car manufacturer TMI AutoTech.

The expansion is set to support significant growth in brand presence and customer base for Ginetta in the US motorsport market and forms the next stage in the manufacturer’s global growth strategy.

The US is one of the major markets in global motorsport and one where I know from my own racing experiences that the tradition and passion for racing runs deep. We have a loyal customer base in the Americas that we have supported up until now from our HQ in England,” said Lawrence Tomlinson, chairman at Ginetta.

“With the creation of Ginetta North America, we will be able to provide our North American customers with a whole new level of support and service on the ground here in the US. This will also enable us to significantly expand our brand and customer base in the US, Canada and Mexico, which is a key pillar in our global growth plan. I am pleased to report it is already happening, with orders and new US sales agents developing fast, the details of which we will be announcing in the near future,” Lawrence added.

Founded in 1958 by the Walklett Brothers, Ginetta was acquired by Le Mans class winner and entrepreneur Lawrence Tomlinson in 2005. The company runs a motorsport programme that includes a championship racing ladder that can take a driver seeking to make a career in motorsport, or an enthusiast seeking to race, from their first steps in the sport to a Le Mans Prototype car.

It coaches 140 promising racers each year, who go on to compete in major global professional motorsport championships, with recent alumni including W Series champion Jamie Chadwick and McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris.
