Dragon Racing has formed a new technical partnership with emerging American manufacturer Faraday Future ahead of the 2016/17 Forumla E season.

Founded two years ago, the US automotive firm has secured backing from China and earlier in the year showcased its single seater FFZERO1 concept car.

Last month the company announced its new global chief brand & commercial officer as Marco Mattiacci, a former team principal of Formula 1 giant Ferrari.

As part of the agreement, Dragon Racing, who finished second in the inaugural FE teams’ championship, will now be renamed Faraday Future Dragon Racing, with its first ever powertrain badged as the Penske 701-EV.

Further details of the deal, which sees the first ever US manufacturer brought into FE, will be announced in due course as the build-up continues to the finale of the FE season in Battersea Park.

The first involvement of Faraday Future in FE came in April when it sponsored the race in Long Beach, which is not far from the company’s headquarters in California.

The news on the company comes as part of the FIA’s confirmed 10 entries for the 2016/17 campaign.

After the sale of its entry to Shanghai based China Media Capital, Team Aguri is to be replaced by an entry from the Techeetah in season three.

NextEV NIO will be the new name for NEXTEV TCR to reflect the firm’s completed takeover of Team China Racing’s original entry, which Nelson Piquet Jr ran to the inaugural driver’s title.

Jaguar Racing’s first FE powertrain will be called the Jaguar I-Type 1.
