HKIA Building Contract Goes to AECOM

Engineering and consulting providers AECOM has landed the complex design contract for the brand new passenger building at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), as part of a £14.7 billion project that will see the development of a three-way runway system.

The airport is an important symbol of any city, and we are extremely pleased to continue making the Hong Kong International Airport the pride of Hong Kong said the President of AECOM Asia Pacific, Sean Chiao. We look forward to leveraging our connected expertise to deliver designs for this major project as well as the airport’s Terminal 2 Expansion for which we were awarded consultancy work earlier.

The project will see HKIA become one of the world’s greenest airports, and the passenger building is set to have a floor area of around 280,000m2 and a landscaped courtyard which will be placed right in the centre of the building. On top of this there will be natural light inside the new building which will help to significantly reduce energy use and continue the concourse’s sustainable design credentials as well as improving the passengers’ experience.

We have assembled a team of highly regarded specialists in many areas of aviation design and engineering said Paul Sankey, the Vice President of Aviation at AECOM in Hong Kong. Many of the team members have hands on experience of past and current projects with Hong Kong International Airport.  They will bring technical excellence and knowledge of airport design and engineering to ensure cost-effectiveness and on-schedule implementation through the provision of buildable design.

So will AECOM succeed in providing a relaxed and environmental experience for its passengers with this new building? With the amount of money being spent on the project we should probably be expecting to see something special upon completion.
