AVG Composites

AGV Composites blends craftsmanship with innovation, using sustainable methods and advanced GRP technology to deliver high-quality solutions across diverse sectors.

AGV Composites is a British manufacturer specialising in high-quality Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) products, delivering bespoke solutions across a wide range of sectors. From lightweight components for automotive use to robust safety-critical elements for construction, the company prides itself on combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation.

Its services span advanced hand lay-up, spray gel systems, and silicone bagging techniques, offering clients not just reliability, but also environmental responsibility. AGV distinguishes itself on the global stage through its integration of sustainable practices, such as part-bio resins and solvent-reducing “easy clean” systems, which reflect its ongoing commitment to greener manufacturing without compromising quality or agility.

At the heart of AGV Composites’ success is its adaptability and future-focused mindset. The company continuously evolves its manufacturing processes to anticipate and meet the demands of emerging industries, particularly in infrastructure and renewable energy, which are sectors that align closely with its sustainability ethos. Recent strategic investments in advanced technologies and staff training programmes have further strengthened AGV’s capabilities, ensuring its team remains at the forefront of GRP innovation.

Indeed, the company refuses to stand still, aligning its capabilities with the changing needs of its clients. Founder and owner Gary Vearncombe explains that this progress is underpinned by targeted investments, such as “spray gel systems and silicone bagging technology to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact,” and a strong focus on workforce development to “ensure staff remain at the forefront of composite manufacturing techniques.” This commitment not only enhances the company’s operational capacity but also reinforces its position as a responsive and future-ready manufacturer.

Yet, AGV’s success is perhaps best measured by its ability to establish enduring relationships. “Some of our key successes include long-term contracts with clients in the safety and construction sectors, successful integration of sustainable materials like bio-resins, and customer recognition for our innovative and reliable solutions,” says Gary. “We’re proud to have developed a reputation for problem-solving and delivering tailored composite components where others might say ‘no.’”

As demand increases in sectors such as infrastructure and transport, AGV’s ability to provide lightweight, durable, and low-maintenance materials gives it a competitive edge. According to Gary, “Our technical versatility and commitment to sustainable production have positioned us well to meet this demand.” Underpinning it all is a strong emphasis on training and development. “Staff development is core to our business,” he adds. “We believe a skilled team is essential to delivering high-quality products. We support internal knowledge-sharing, hands-on training, and cross-functional skills development to foster growth and adaptability across our workforce.”

Leading the Way

AGV Composites continues to lead the way in composite manufacturing by combining sustainability with cutting-edge process innovation. Recent years have seen a deliberate shift towards more efficient production methods, guided by lean manufacturing principles and a focus on reducing environmental impact. The introduction of silicone membrane vacuum bagging and solvent-reducing “easy clean” systems are clear examples; technologies that not only cut waste and save time but also enhance quality and consistency across the board.

Founder Gary Vearncombe explains how this drive for modernisation is embedded in the company’s DNA: “At AGV Composites, continuous process development is central to how we innovate and deliver high-quality GRP solutions. A significant advancement in our production capability has been the adoption of closed-mould silicone membrane vacuum bagging, introduced with the expert support of Alan Harper Composites. Their team played a key role in the initial stages, assisting with the manufacture and setup of our first silicone membranes and providing ongoing technical support as we integrated the process into our operations.

“The silicone bagging system has brought multiple benefits to our workflow. It reduces the level of manual skill traditionally required to produce high-quality GRP parts, ensuring consistent consolidation and fibre wet-out. Additionally, the controlled environment created by the silicone membranes has allowed us to reduce overall material usage and improve efficiency across various layups. With continued guidance from Alan Harper Composites, we are now in the process of manufacturing our own silicone bags in-house, giving us greater control over production and reinforcing our commitment to precision and repeatability in composite manufacturing.”

AGV works closely with its trusted suppliers to ensure consistency in material quality, lead times, and sustainable sourcing. “Our partners understand the bespoke nature of our work and support us in delivering high-performance materials that align with our environmental goals and product integrity standards,” notes Gary.

Looking ahead, “We’re focused on streamlining operations and expanding our capacity to serve growing sectors like infrastructure and clean energy. Longer-term, we aim to be a leader in sustainable composite manufacturing in the UK; investing further in low-emission resins, recyclable materials, and circular manufacturing principles.”

With a clear focus on sustainability, technical innovation, and workforce development, AGV Composites is setting new standards in GRP manufacturing. Long-term partnerships, sector expansion, and continuous process improvement ensure the company remains agile and competitive in a fast-evolving market. As demand for durable, lightweight, and environmentally responsible materials grows, AGV is well-positioned to lead the next generation of British composite manufacturing, driven by purpose, precision, and a commitment to shaping a cleaner industrial future.
