NEC has launched this week its ‘Digital Library’ platform which allows NEC4 users to access the full suite of contracts at any time and in any place from any computer or mobile device. It is the first of its kind for construction industry projects, aiming to assist in reducing the time it takes to resolve conflicts or challenge terms.

Project teams can instantly view digitised copies of all NEC4 documents, including user guides for easy clarifications, with no need to download any additional software. Digital Library was designed to encourage more efficient project collaboration and it is completed by an easy to use search function that allows fast reference for users no matter their location.

We are delighted to reveal that Digital Library is the first and only way that industry professionals can access every aspect of procurement contracts digitally, on a computer or on-the-go at their fingertips, said Elizabeth Brookfield, Product Manager at NEC.

We already allow access to the new suite of contract through options such as ePrint and eView. However, the Library grants users immediate access to both the contracts and guides simultaneously. This allows any uncertainties about any aspect of the contracts to be easily explained at the click of a button, she explained.

The first edition of NEC, back then holding the name of New Engineering Contract, was published in 1993. How, NED is a division of Thomas Telford Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the owner and developer of the NEC. One of the characteristics of its contracts is that they stimulate good management of the relationship between the two parties to the contract and, hence, of the work included in the contract. They can also be used in a wide variety of commercial situations, coming as a clear and simple document that uses a straightforward and easily understood language.
