Mereway Expands Birmingham Factory

Mereway Expands Birmingham Factory

Kitchen and bathroom manufacturer Mereway has added a further 2,000 sq ft to its factory in Birmingham, which it believes will double production over the next five year period.

As part of the official opening of the site, John Lewis Managing Director Andy Street paid a visit along with Mereway owners Richard and Bob Norris.

The extra 2,000 sq ft space has added 10% to the existing 17,500 sq ft site, with the £500,000 investment at the Amington Road facility also creating 10 new jobs.

A new packaging and dispatch area, office and improved staff canteen will come as part of the extension, while new spraying booths have also been added to facilitate the production of flat matt painted doors and bespoke kitchen furniture.

The Amington Road premises is one of four production facilities in the area where products are manufactured and designed.

Mereway currently supplies a 500 independent retailer network throughout the UK and has supplied John Lewis for the last 15 years.

John Lewis’s Street commented: I am delighted to have the opportunity to support Mereway – a manufacturer that is still designing and manufacturing in Britain.

It is fantastic to see that traditional skills such as carpentry, bench work and hand finishing are carried out in the new facility to create quality products for John Lewis customers.

Richard Norris, Joint Managing Director at Mereway believes that the extension is a key milestone for the company’s expansion in its 30th year.

Norris added that although there are challenges ahead, they remain confident of maintaining their ambitious growth plans, developing new products and strengthening their presence in the kitchen market.

Norris continued: Our long-standing relationship with John Lewis is testament to our partnership approach and our vision to be an outstanding supplier of choice and we are grateful that Andy could join us today to mark this important opening.
