GMB Welcomes British Steel Bids as Workers Await News : GMB, the union for steelworkers, has welcomed bids received for British Steel after the Official Receiver reported encouraging levels of interest.
Special Managers are in the process of analysing bids after last night’s deadline and are in ongoing discussions with interested parties.
It came as the Government-convened British Steel Support Group, on which GMB sits, met today.
Ross Murdoch, GMB National Officer said:
“That bids have been put on the table is a show of confidence in British Steel’s dedicated workforce and this proud industry.
“Production will carry on as normal as workers await consideration of the bids, and in hope that this vital industry gets the proper support it needs to be safeguarded for the longer term.
“British Steel employees are absolutely working their socks off, proudly showing that they will fight for the future of this productive and viable industry.”
