Metal manufacturing expert, Metsec is to continue its involvement with the redevelopment of Ashton Gate Stadium which currently houses both Bristol City Football Club and Bristol Rugby Club.
Metsec has contributed its CE marked construction projects to the upgrade of Ashton Gate Stadium, which houses Bristol City Football Club and Bristol Rugby Club.
Established over 80 years ago, under the voestalpine group, one of Europeâs leading specialist engineering firms, Metsec has proven itself adept in both design and precision engineering, quickly developing the full engineering solution for use in construction and manufacturing sectors. With CE marked competencies and EX4 certification, the company has worked across a great number of high profile development projects over the years, including renovating and contributing to many stadia.
The project has been in the offing since 2014. Hoped to transform the site for players and fans as well as provide a boost to the local economy, renovation works are being carried out in three stages, each targeting Wedlock, Dolman and Williams stands respectively.
Phase one saw the demolition of Wedlock Stand after some 86 years of service. When it is rebuilt, the new stand will house state-of-the-art conference facilities, administration offices and a café for use by patrons. Progress at Dolman Stand is already evident, despite works falling under phase two development plans, and the new stand features a prominent new sports bar. Williams Stand will be completely reconstructed during final stage works and, in its place, will rise a two-tier structure with a maximum capacity of 11,000 spectators.
Metal forming specialist, Mestec has participated in phase one and phase two works, and has recently been approached for final phases works. During the first two phases, the firm supplied a series of structural steel purlins and side rails and the company is expected to perform in much the same way for this final stage.
The stadium has remained open whilst construction is under way but it is hoped that the public will get a first look at the final stadium at the beginning of the 2016/17 season.
