Haringey Council is on the look out for a developer up to its £100m regeneration plans on High Road West. The local authority, which serves the London regions of Enfield, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington, Camden, and Barnet, is looking to realise major housing redevelopment plans, including demolishing the Love Lane council estate which currently provides 300 homes. The regeneration will also see the redevelopment of neighbouring industrial estates and surrounding commercial and retail properties. In their place, Haringey Council has committed to building 1,500 new homes for use by current tenants and many more. The cost of construction is estimated at a huge £100m. The local authority has not released all the information of the procurement to the public but a number of major construction firms are in running to take on the multimillion pound contract. Known bidders include Galliford Try, Lendlease and Morgan Sindall, companies who each have a history of working on high profile projects. Alan Strickland, Haringey Councillor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration said the council would be launching procurement for the role of main contractor in May. Selection will however will not be decided until the end of year with work expected to commence early next year. It was only a week ago that Haringey Council hit the news with more development plans, this time to the tune of £2bn. A shortlist of six contractors has been drawn up for the programme which will see the construction of 5,000 more homes in next 15 to 20 years. Of course, Tottenham, located within the borough of Haringey, is also set to benefit from the council’s forward approach to development. Its Premier League football team will gain a new £400m ground for matches and training. Mace will shoulder the bulk of the work on the new, 61,000 seat stadium at White Hart Lane – what will be the largest by capacity in London. The stadium development also comprises the construction of nearly 600 homes, a luxury hotel and new sports and leisure facilities. For the London Borough of Haringey then, regeneration is key.
