Health and safety is not just about protecting someone from injury. The workforce is a precious commodity, one that not only needs encouragement, incentive and skills development, but the knowledge that its wellbeing is a high priority for its employer.
That’s one of the reasons the Sovereign Group, one of the UK’s true pioneers of both PVC doors and windows, is pleased to have achieved health and safety certification OHSAS 18001. The UK-wide operator, with expertise in a range of external refurbishment requirements, has acquired the 18001 certification to, as health and safety manager Antony Bowditch says, reflect the company’s commitment to the “quality, health and safety” of its workforce, putting into sharp focus its dedication and enthusiasm to “safety performance” at all levels. It’s what “sets us apart” he says.
Established in 1973, Sovereign Group, whose expertise extends to aluminium, timber and PVC window and door renewal, GRP composite doors including fire-safety doors and the supply of PVC doors and windows, says it is honoured to have achieved the OHSAS 18001 certification for its health and safety practices. It is further indication of its comprehensive approach to safety and the success of the policies and procedures it has put in place. Furthermore, managing director Frances Austin acknowledges the cost-savings and efficiency benefits of improving health and safety throughout the business. Indeed, Sovereign, like other health and safety leaders, is now enjoying the commercial benefits of a rebust, certified safety regimen.
John Hall, Sovereign’s operations director, said he was “extremely proud” of what he termed a “significant” achievement for the business, its workforce, partners, suppliers and support organisations.
The Group employs more than 200 people at its 180,000 sq ft production facility located in Lancashire. It is here where the business also has its head office. The Group also boasts a strategically located network of distribution centres across the UK.
