A shocking video has surfaced via twitter of the Apple iPhone 7 plus emitting a serious amount of smoke as well the device being melted at the side. Clearly the handset emitted a serious amount of heat to cause that kind of damage.

The phone belonged to Arizona teen Brianna Olivas, she posted a video of the incident on twitter that garnered over 25,000 retweets and over 100 million views.

The damage did not end with what was shown in the video.

“The next morning I was asleep with my phone charging next to my head, my boyfriend grabbed the phone and put it on the dresser,” she told Mashable.

“He went the the [sic] restroom … and from the corner of his eye he saw my phone steaming and [heard] a squealing noise. By the time he got over to the phone it had already caught fire, he quickly grabbed the phone and threw it in the restroom … as soon as he threw it in the restroom is [sic] blew up and more smoke started coming out of the phone.”

The teen said that Apple immediately replaced her phone, and is currently running tests to figure out exactly what happened. An Apple spokesperson said: “We are in touch with the customer and looking into it.”

The event doesn’t represent the only time explosive problems have occured with smartphones, Samsung underwent massive problems with the Galaxy Note 7 model. The Galaxy’s issues laid with the phone’s battery.

Samsung’s problem however was far more widespread over 100 of the model burst into flames, it reached the point where they weren’t aloud on airplanes because they were such a hazard. The company ended up having to stop all sales and shipments of the Note 7. They even worked with the government and cellular network companies in an attempt to try to recall as many of the phones as possible and give customers refunds. The damages to the electronics giants reputation was huge.

It remains unclear whether the case with this iPhone 7 is singular or whether it’s a more widespread problem. We can only hope for the safety of iPhone users across the globe that it’s an isolated incident.
