New Manufacturing Facility Approved in Ellesmere Port : The go-ahead has been given for the creation of a cardboard box manufacturing facility which will be spread across 800,000 sq. ft. The new manufacturing facility is located next to the M53 in Ellesmere Port. Approval has been given for the project which will rejuvenate the site of the former Cabot Carbon plant which closed in 2009.
The Cheshire West & Chester Councilâs planning committee have approved the plans to transform the site. The new facility has been designed by UMC Architects and includes a 327,976 sq. ft. corrugated cardboard and cardboard box manufacturing facility as phase one of the development. The phase two of the project will include an additional manufacturing facility which will be up to 468,230 sq. ft.
In order to complete phase on of this project it is thought that an investment will be required of approximately £120 million, with an undisclosed figure to complete both phases of the project. This therefore will reflect a huge investment in the area and the site, when completed will potentially lead to the generation of new jobs.
When the manufacturing facility has been completed the end user will be Prowell. The German manufacturing company already has premises located in Ellesmere Port and the creation of the new manufacturing site will generate around 68 new jobs for the area.
The corrugated board manufacturer will be increasing their production capacity by 250,000 tpy with this expansion project. However, this increase in capacity will take place over the medium term, while the new facilities are being constructed. Prowell is also setting up two new corrugated sheet plants. As well as the facility that has been approved in Ellesmere Port, there is also plans to create a new plant in Drizzona, Northern Italy. Prowell is a subsidiary of Progroup which is a German corrugated board producer.
