Huhtamaki to Invest in Paper Cup Manufacturing Plant in Ukraine

Food packaging company Huhtamaki will invest in a new paper cup manufacturing unit in Ukraine, which will allow it to expand its European foodservice business.

The new plant – in the capital, Kiev – will allow the Finnish company to ‘better serve both its local and global customers’ and will manufacture a full range of paper cups for hot and cold drinks.

Manufacturing operations are expected to begin during 2018 and the unit is expected to create around 50 jobs for the local economy, becoming part of the Huhtamaki’s Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment.

Huhtamaki has been present in Ukraine since 2002 and is currently serving the market by importing products mainly from its manufacturing units in Poland.

Eric Le Lay, vice-president of Huhtamaki Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania, said: Despite the recent political and economic turbulence, the foodservice market in Ukraine is growing and the country has an important role in many of our global key customers’ growth plans. In addition, Ukraine has an extensive transport infrastructure and is well placed to service the neighboring countries.
