2 Sisters Food Group, a Birmingham-headquartered food giant, will be spending around £3.5 million at its Scottish Coupar Angus base, which will be topped to reach a total of £5 million by a Food Processing Marketing and Co-operation grant. The plant will also create more than 250 jobs.

“We are committed to providing fresh, quality produce to our customers and creating a shorter supply chain enables us to do just that,” said Keith Packer, managing director, 2 Sisters UK Poultry.

“We have always said we will invest when it is the right thing to do for the business, but the timing and conditions have to be right. This is a great example of that. I am delighted that we have secured the support from the Scottish Government as this represents security and growth for our business and local community in Perthshire,” he added.

The government funding will go towards staff training, the purchase of new equipment required to increase capacity and the recruitment of an additional 250 employees. The new jobs will be created across all levels and departments, ranging from production operatives to technical management in addition to two new engineering apprenticeship positions.

“It is fantastic for the site and community; we are looking forward to expanding and offering local people jobs,” said Nicola Ballantyne, HR Manager at Coupar Angus. “There are lots of opportunities for people with the right attitude and talent to progress within the business and development a great career here.”

2 Sisters Food Group started back in the early 1990s and now it has a strong UK presence in poultry, red meat, chilled and frozen food categories, as well as being a ‘big brand’ favourite with Fox’s Biscuits and Holland’s Pies. The company’s customers include Aldi, Asda, Co-op, KFC, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
