Bokomo Foods, a breakfast cereal manufacturer, has opened up a new £2 million production centre in Cambridgeshire.
Situated in Orton Southgate, Peterborough, the 18682m2 facility will mean that the manufacturer will double its production capacity.
Bokomo also revealed that it has invested in new machinery as a way of further improving customer lead times.
Bokomo Foods Chief Executive Officer, John Hiles, said that the firm is very excited to be opening up a new, larger scale site, which the company has designed with the specific intention of meeting the requirements of a world class breakfast cereal business.
Hiles added that their relocation form their former site has taken a lot of planning to make sure that their customers do not face disruption.
He also believes that the new facility will enable the company to continue its expansion and improve its efficiency throughout all areas to improve its general offering to its customers.
Included in the new facility are: centralised offices, gated security and improved facilities for the companyâs workforce and development and research.
The company moved from its old 6,000m2 site which consisted of six separate buildings, while operations at the new site have been streamlined and the energy efficiency across the production cycle has been improved significantly thanks to keeping all facilities in the same site.
The new factoryâs construction was completed in May this year after a £2 million plus investment from owner Pioneer Foods, with the site now fully operational since it opened on June 3 this year.
Hiles said that the new oven installation has allowed the company to increase its baking capacity, while a new high speed machine has allowed for increases in packaging capacity, adding that the business still has a lot of room for further expansion with over 7,000 pallet spaces.
The company has sites in both Peterborough and Wellingborough and produces 10 million bowls of cereal each week for supermarkets throughout the UK.
