Moran Logistics Embraces Qargo’s Future-Ready TMS

Moran Logistics, one of the UK’s largest food distribution specialists, has always operated with agility, resilience, and a sharp eye for innovation. With a fleet of over 300 vehicles, 24/7 operations, and a growing footprint across the country, they play a pivotal role in delivering chilled, ambient, and frozen goods to major retailers. Now, in partnership with Qargo, Moran Logistics is setting a new benchmark for transport management in the temperature-controlled sector.

After a meticulous selection process, Moran Logistics chose Qargo as their TMS provider earlier this year, officially kicking off the partnership in March. As of April, they began testing live operations from their Oswestry site, handling active orders and testing complex workflows ahead of a full phased rollout across the business.

The Need for Change

Speaking to James Osborne, Transport Systems Manager at Moran Logistics, it’s clear the decision to invest in a new TMS wasn’t taken lightly.

“We were using other digital providers which successfully tracked our vehicles & provided telematics feedback but didn’t cover key processes digitally, like invoicing, POD management, or operational planning in one system,” says Osborne. “We have someone whose full-time job was scanning PODs into a secure database but with hundreds of drops daily and volumes growing, that just didn’t scale.”

As the business expanded, especially following the acquisition of McGregor Logistics, now Moran Logistics (Ambient), so did the complexity of its operations. The leadership team recognised the need for a smarter, more integrated TMS platform.

Why Qargo?

“We looked at all the TMS’s out there,” Osborne explains. But Qargo stood out because it’s modern, agile, and not weighed down by legacy tech. They release new features constantly, and the driver app was by far the most intuitive and multilingual – a huge plus for our diverse workforce.”

Another selling point was Qargo’s flexibility and collaborative ethos. “From the start, Qargo has been incredibly responsive. Their onboarding lead, Kevin Hosell, has been excellent. We’ve had site visits, weekly check-ins, and a shared Slack channel with key people from both teams. It feels like a true partnership.”

Rolling Out with Intent

Rather than a big-bang implementation, Moran Logistics has opted for a phased rollout, starting with structured testing in Oswestry and operational deployment in Leeds. “We’re testing everything from planning to driver devices in Oswestry before switching on invoicing and automation in Leeds. That way, we iron out the wrinkles before scaling,” Osborne shares.

Immediate Wins and What’s Next

Even in early testing, the team is already seeing signs of improvement. “We’re reducing manual admin significantly,” Osborne notes. “Trip sheets that were once built in spreadsheets can now be generated with a click. We’re also capturing driver data digitally, like fuel fills and mileage, straight into the Qargo app.”

Looking ahead, the real value for Moran Logistics lies in visibility, control, and reporting. “We’re excited about the data and reporting Qargo can unlock across finance and transport. It’ll help us be more efficient, not just by cutting costs but by supporting our people with better tools and providing increased visibility, real-time proof-of-delivery and reducing administration time.”

A System That Just Makes Sense

When asked to summarise his experience so far, Osborne puts it simply: “It’s a breath of fresh air to have a system that actually delivers what we need, and is easy to use.”

With rollout plans already underway for additional sites and the team pushing ahead with smart integrations and automated workflows, Moran Logistics is well on its way to building the next generation of food distribution. And with Qargo by their side, they’re doing it with intelligence, ambition, and pace.
