Beyond Plain: Prism’s Rise to Co-Packing Leadership

unnamed

In a market defined by tight margins and fierce competition, Basingstoke-based Prism eLogistics has carved out a high-value niche. By evolving from a traditional “pick, pack, and dispatch” model into a strategic consultancy and technical powerhouse, the company has become an indispensable partner for ambitious FMCG and beverage brands.

From Fulfilment to Partnership

Founded in 2020 during the e-commerce boom, Prism initially focused on rapid fulfilment. However, the arrival of Managing Director Ian Wright in 2023 signaled a strategic shift toward value-added services.

“If you can get in at the start and help brands navigate their packing needs, you create a proposition based on partnership and consultancy,” says Wright. This proactive approach allows Prism to guide brands long before products hit the production line, offering expertise that traditional, reactive co-packers cannot match.

Solving Retail Realities

Prism’s edge lies in its ability to bridge the gap between a brand’s innovation and the harsh realities of the supply chain. This is particularly evident in the beverage sector:

  • Optimizing Pack Sizes: Prism helps brands transition from bulky 24-packs to retail-friendly 4- or 12-packs, which maximize shelf space and lower the barrier for consumer trial.
  • Structural Integrity: Prism provides vital design consultancy, ensuring packaging includes essential features like locking mechanisms to prevent in-store tampering.
  • Agile Repacking: With few UK fillers capable of creating 4-packs inline, Prism fills the gap by breaking down bulk quantities into specialized retail formats.

High-Speed Technical Excellence

Prism’s sleeving capabilities are a major differentiator. With two fully automated steam lines, the facility can apply up to 15,000 sleeves per hour—reaching 160,000 units a day.

Beyond speed, Prism masters complex geometry, using a precise location system to sleeve rectangular or concave bottles. They also offer a UK-exclusive “undertuck” system, which tucks the sleeve under the container base for a seamless, premium finish that eliminates the common issue of sleeve “smiling.”

Sustainability & Innovation

In partnership with CCL, Prism utilizes EcoFloat materials to improve the recyclability of PET bottles. Their sleeving expertise also allows brands to bypass the massive minimum order quantities (MOQs) required for printed cans, making high-impact, limited-edition runs accessible for smaller artisan labels.

Looking Ahead

While dominant in the beverage sector, Prism is now expanding its reach into perfumes, cosmetics, and personal care—sectors that face similar demands for agility and sustainable packaging.

“Whether it’s handling complex subscription models or adopting more sustainable choices, we are ready to support more of the market,” says Wright.
