Tech Track 100 League Names Yorkshire Businesses

The 19th annual Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms (TMT) companies with the fastest-growing sales, has named five Yorkshire-based companies. The five companies from the region (compared to six last year) have grown sales by an average of 74% a year over three years to a total of £127 million.

“Tech companies have once again proved their mettle as they continue to power up growth and innovation. Hats off to all the companies that have made it onto this year’s Tech Track 100,” said Bob Thaker, chief executive of Hiscox UK.

The companies named in Tech Track include Harrogate-based smart energy monitoring business Chameleon Technology, which has installed more than four million smart in-home displays in the UK since it was established in 2010. Boosted by the UK government’s smart energy rollout, sales hit £21.8 million last year.

Featuring for the first time this year is Leeds-based Pharmacy 2U, which has worked with the NHS to create software that allows patients to request repeat prescriptions electronically. It has raised £58 million in total from G Square Capital and the growth-capital firm BGF. Sales reached £61 million this year.

Ilkley-based anti-fraud technology developer Smartsearch is the highest newcomer from the region on the list, reporting average sales growth over the past three years of 56% to £8.1 million.

“2019 has been our most successful year to date; so far this year we have onboarded almost 300 clients, adding more than 3,700 new users to the platform – to take the total clients to over 4,000 and users to 38,000,” commented John Dobson, chief executive at SmartSearch.

“So we knew that we had grown significantly over the past three years, but see just how well we have done compared to our peers is fantastic. The fact we are now officially the 86th fastest-growing tech firm in Britain and 4th in Yorkshire is a fantastic achievement.”

The other Yorkshire-headquartered businesses to feature are cloud services provider Giacom and workforce management software company BigChange.

The Tech Track 100 is sponsored by Hiscox, Barclays, BDO, BGF and N+1 Singer, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.
