James Wharton MP, Secretary of State for the Northern Powerhouse, will discuss a range of issues including Brexit at Manufacturing & Engineering North East 2016.
The event will take place at Newcastleâs Metro Arena on July 6-7 and during his talk on July 7 at 14.15, Mr Wharton will speak about the long term economic plan of the government, with a key focus on redressing the growth balance across the nations and regions of the UK and the plans to build the Northern Powerhouse.
The Conservative MP for Stockton South is aiming to implement the Northern Powerhouse scheme that could add up to £40 billion to the UKâs economy by the end of the next decade, or in real terms, £1,600 per person living in the North East.
The strategy involves an investment in culture and tourism, digital and innovation, transport and science and technology throughout the North, along with devolution of power that is said to provide the North with a powerful new voice.
Mr Wharton will also be fielding questions on a series of important issues in the region such as what the future will hold for manufacturing in the North East after the UKâs vote to leave the European Union in last weekâs referendum.
As well as the Northern Powerhouse minister, the conference at Manufacturing & Engineering North East will provide case studies by speakers from the top of the industry, including AMRC TC, Ford Aerospace, Nissan and Hitachi Rail.
Mr Wharton has been an MP for Stockton South for the last six years since he defeated the sitting Labour MP Dari Taylor at the 2010 election by a narrow majority.
He sat on the Public Accounts Committee from May 2010 until November 2012 and as a member of the Conservative Friends of Israel group he has gone on trips abroad paid for by the group.
