The Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay is set to play host to TechBay 2016 on Friday 11th November as part of Tomorrowâs Engineers Week, an event based around science, technology, engineering and mathematics which will be looking to inspire and motivate young people to get involved and potentially pursue a career in one of the industries.
TechBay 2016 will also be celebrating the first year of the Torbay MADE (Manufacturing Activities Designed to Engage) pilot, a project set up to promote the Torbay and South Devon manufacturing industry whilst again aiming to inspire and interest youngsters in the area, and the event will be held in conjunction with Torbay Council and South Devon College.
Gordon Oliver, who is Torbayâs elected Mayor, stated, The project is raising the profile of careers within the engineering sector and the opportunities available locally, both now and for the future. By informing young people of the sectors which are growing in Torbay we can help raise skill levels, create opportunities and maintain quality full time jobs in Torbay.
The hope is that this event will make the concept of working in these industries exciting for young individuals through enabling them to work directly with participating businesses from the industry, allowing them to get a taste for what it is like through an interactive programme of activities delivered by businesses such as MB Aerospace, The Big Bang UK and Sonardyne International to name a few.
The activities at TechBay are delivered in an interactive way to maximise engagement, whilst providing attendees with a dedicated forum to learn more about the engineering and manufacturing sectors said Debbie Passmore, the partnership executive at the Torbay Development Agency (TDA). The excellent partnership between schools and businesses is vital to the future of these sectors.
