The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit will host a special event on 5 December at the UAE Pavilion within the Blue Zone of COP28 UAE. This high-profile gathering will convene leaders from the government, private sector, and international organisations to lead industry-wide discussions on decarbonising the manufacturing sector and reducing its carbon footprint.

Co-chaired by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit serves as an international platform dedicated to advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial development across the world.

His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary of Industry Accelerators Sector  at UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “In line with the objectives of the ministry’s participation in COP28, which include providing a platform for innovative solutions supporting decarbonization in the industrial sector, we are pleased to collaborate with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to organize the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit’s Special Event at the UAE Pavilion. The event will further showcase the critical role of manufacturers and policymakers in decarbonising industries and hard-to-abate sectors, accelerating the clean energy transition, achieving net-zero targets, and contributing to sustainable economic development.”

Driven by the mission of bringing the world together to enable collective action, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit will gather C-suite executives from Fortune 500 companies, government representatives, and senior industry experts from academic institutions and international organisations to explore the significance of public-private partnerships in advancing decarbonised green economies, innovations in renewable energy, and the potential of the Fifth Industrial Revolution in advancing sustainable industrial practices.

Driving inclusive dialogue on industry transition to accelerate climate action

The event will feature a fireside chat with Dorothy McAuliffe, Special Representative for the Office of Global Partnerships at the United States Department of State, highlighting the role of public-private partnerships in advancing the net-zero agenda.

Speaking at a panel titled “Powering the Future: Innovations in Renewable Energy”, leaders from some of the world’s most influential companies, including, Roger Martella, Chief Sustainability Officer of General Electric; Michael Train, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Emerson; Jill Evanlko, President, CEO and Director of Chart Industries; and Lorena Dellagiovanna, Senior Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer and CDEIO of Hitachi; will explore the challenges and opportunities of integrating renewable energy into the manufacturing sector.

Spotlighting how to accelerate the adoption of green technologies and sustainability practices in the hard-to-abate sectors, Alessandro Bresciani, Senior Vice President for Climate Technology Solutions at Baker Hughes; Omar Al Mahmoud, Chief Executive Officer of ICT Fund; Prof. Dr. Estelle L.A. Herlyn, Scientific Director at the University of Applied Sciences, Düsseldorf; and James Dorris, CEO of Odys Aviation will participate in a panel titled “Advancing the Climate Agenda: The Role of the 5IR in Transforming Industries”.

Held under COP28 UAE’s thematic day for Energy, Industry, and Just Transition, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit special event will take place from 14:50 to 17:20 at the Blue Zone in the UAE Pavilion, located in the Opportunity Petal at Expo City Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and will be live-streamed on https://gmisummit.com/.
