The teams for the Valeo Innovation Challenge were announced last week. There are 24 teams that will be moving on to the second stage of the competition. This global contest that is run by Valeo, the automotive supplier, has seen 24 teams selected from 1,628 entrants. The semi-finalists have been selected by 70 experts from Valeo as well as independent specialists.
There are two categories in the competition. 11 of the semi-finalists will compete as part of the technological innovation challenge, and 134 will be a part of the idea for new ways of using cars section. The projects will be developed by the teams using a â¬5,000 grant from Valeo and they will relate to safety and cyber security as well as cabin comfort and well-being. The teams have until the 13th of July to develop their ideas using this grant. After this deadline, eight finalists will be shortlisted and asked to present their idea to a grand jury. This jury will be headed by the CEO and Chairman of Valeo Jacques Aschenbroich. The other jury members will include people in the Groupâs Management team and also eminent scientists and business leaders.
The winner of the competition and the â¬100,000 grand prize will be announced on the 27th October. The second place team will also win â¬10,000. The winning team within the technological innovation category will be given the chance to join a start up accelerator in partnership with Valeo in order to develop their idea.
This is the fourth year that the Valeo Innovation Challenge has taken place and the participation has been at a record high. It is thought that 5,000 students as part of 1,628 teams from around 80 countries have applied to compete this year. These competitors include 748 different universities and schools. This competition provides student around the world to take part in automotive innovation.
