MEM Awards Steve

Steve Statham, one of our judges in the inaugural MEM Awards, is eager to find the best of the best within manufacturing and engineering. The Head of Group Business Development at MTC, Statham is an accomplished business consultant with almost 20 years experience in innovation and R&D related activities.

He began his career with Pera (Production Engineering Research Association) in Melton Mowbray working directly for a wide range of companies from multinationals to SMEs covering projects like new process development, identification of new markets, and competitor analysis.

He says his strengths include “helping companies to innovate and providing them with the knowledge and financial resources (i.e. accessing the best funding source); facilitating brainstorming sessions; IP protection and licensing; experience of international business operations and identifying opportunities for UK and overseas collaborations.”

Following his work at Pera, Statham went to work at Loughborough University in the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre helping to run a European funded + UK funded programme (Transport iNet) aimed at embedding innovation into SMEs involved in the transport sector through the provision of grants.

Finally he joined MTC in March 2011 heading up business development. Statham has helped to grow the company from an initial base of three industrial members to over 100 including the likes of Rolls Royce, General Motors, BAE, Unilever, Hewlett Packard, London Underground and HS2.
