Jane Robinson, co-founder and director of Cutting Technologies Ltd, a £3m turnover laser cutting and engraving business based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, will appear as a judge in MEM’s inaugural manufacturing and engineering awards. Robinson was the first judge to be announced and the member of the Regional Advisory Board of the EEF (Engineering Employers Federation) is keen to discover the best the sector has to offer.
The MEM Awards will prove to be a fantastic way for the manufacturing and engineering sector to take a huge step forward in 2017. The MEM Awards, which look at best practice across several specially selected categories, aim to celebrate products, practices and campaigns, showcasing the best and the brightest talents in the UK.
Robinson brings over 20 yearsâ experience in engineering and manufacturing and set up her first business in 2001. Along with two partners, she founded Cutting Technologies in 2003 and now employs 32. She has overseen a successful programme of diversification over the last 18 months, developing the creative and design-led elements of the business which has secured continued growth through difficult economic times.

Highly Commended in the Businessperson of the Year category in Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerceâs 2012 awards, Robinson’s speaking engagements include Tent London (part of London Design Festival), EEF breakfasts and local events such as JCI conferences.
She is passionate about bringing creativity to manufacturing and empowering people to think differently to grow the industry. Recently, she organised an exhibition to display the potential of laser technology in design, with exhibits ranging from a laser cut Perspex chair to a laser cut latex catsuit â something which raised a few eyebrows in the traditional world of engineering!
