There is just under a month to go before The energy transformation challenge, BCECA’s second virtual annual conference which opens at 09:30 GMT on Wednesday 5 October 2022.
UK based engineering contractors, their customers, suppliers, and partners will come together for the free online event that will take a broad look at the political, economic, and technical implications of achieving ‘Net Zero’ by 2050, before drilling down to the hard nosed practicalities of making it happen on the ground.
The conference features two scene-setting keynotes exploring different perspectives of the energy transformation challenge. The Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Dr Alan Whitehead MP, one of the most knowledgeable speakers on energy matters in the UK parliament, will open the conversation with a view on government policy present and future. Later in the day, HyNet Project Manager, David Walker, will report on the latest developments on a flagship carbon capture and storage and low-carbon hydrogen production project in North West England, which is projected to deliver 3TWh of low-carbon hydrogen as early as 2025.
The fully interactive conference also includes panel sessions examining the finance and skill supply complexities that must be addrressed on the road to net zero. In the afternoon, the meeting will take a detailed look at lessons learned and knowledge gained from a broad range of decarbonisation projects spanning hydrogen production, sustainable jet fuels and the upgrading of fossil fuel intensive assets. Routes to securing design excellence through seamless chain collaboration, effective communication and workforce diversity and flexibility will feature prominently in the conversation.
